The sun is shining, the butterflies and moths are fluttering, and this Friday 12th July welcomes the launch of Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count - the world’s biggest survey of its kind!
Last year over 94,000 of you took part and submitted more than 136,000 counts to help us understand how these beautiful insects are coping in the face of a nature and climate crisis.
Sadly, our State of Butterflies report last year found that 80% of butterflies have declined since the 1970's - this decline is telling us that our wider natural world is in trouble.
Taking part in the Big Butterfly Count is an easy but meaningful way to help.
The information you gather supports our scientists’ understanding of what is happening to the UK’s butterflies, so they can put in place the conservation measures needed. In recent years, Butterfly Conservation has helped to turn around the fortunes of several threatened species and halt the decline of many others.
